If you’re like me, then you probably spent the last month of 2017 watching Stephen King’s “It” on repeat. And if you’re like me, then you’re probably now wondering how to create your own Pennywise the Clown costume for next Halloween. Well, have no fear – I’m here to help!
In this blog post, I’ll share with you all the tips and tricks needed to make your very own Pennywise costume. So read on, and get ready to transform yourself into one terrifying clown!
About Pennywise the Clown from It
Pennywise is a monster from the 1990 adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, It. He is an evil entity that feeds off the fear he inflicts on his victims by stalking them and playing tricks on them before finally killing them.
Pennywise is nocturnal, only coming out at night to terrorize the children of Derry. He can shapeshift into whatever his victim fears most (such as a werewolf or a giant bird), but his favorite form is that of an evil-looking clown.
How to Dress Like Pennywise the Clown from It
The most important part about creating your Pennywise costume is obtaining the right look. You can’t just wear a clown outfit and expect it to be good enough – for this effect, you need an actual authentic mask or elite makeup skills!
Luckily, there are masks available online if you don’t want to make them yourself. But I suggest taking a crack at making one yourself – it’s a lot of fun, and you might as well save yourself some money!
Hair and Makeup
Pennywise has a bright orange hairstyle reminiscent of Bozo the Clown’s signature hairstyle, only it looks even more creeper thanks to his massive forehead and receding hairline. You can usually achieve this look with an authentic-looking wig.
It’s also worth noting that Pennywise’s skin is usually pale white, with red face paint and lipstick extending from his lips, which gives him his unique and iconic look.
Some people also choose to create pennywise’s face even more evil-looking than it already is with some bright red fake blood around the nose and mouth, but this is entirely up to you!
On a side note: Pennywise is often shown as being very thin and having sunken eyes, so if you want your pennywise costume to be even more authentic, then add in these extra details or use makeup to create them.
Although pennywise’s teeth are usually shown as being yellow and rotted (and even achieving this look is difficult), you don’t need to worry about creating ridiculously crooked and jagged fake teeth – that’s what fake teeth are for!
Now that you know what pennywise looks like, it’s time to think about his actual outfit! Pennywise wears a gray clown outfit with red trim around parts of the outfit.
If you’re looking for a Pennywise the Clown costume that will really make an impression, follow these tips to create a look that is both accurate and genuinely terrifying. Just be sure to have someone take your picture before you go out in public – we promise the results are worth it!
