How to Dress Like Professor X from X-Men

Bald Head

The first step to becoming Professor X is quite obvious. Your locks need to go!

Now, I know some of you may balk at the notion of shaving your head, but trust me, it’s totally worth it for the authenticity. Don’t worry, if you’re not quite ready to take the plunge, there are alternative options such as a bald wig which can be easily found at most costume stores.

Round Glasses

Suit

Xavier has a keen fashion sense. He is often seen wearing a full suit, and looks quite dapper in it! You can easily rent one from your local costume shop or department store if you don’t own one.

Wheelchair

A wheelchair will finish off Professor X’s look. If you don’t already own one, you can try finding a used one at a consignment shop or on Craigslist. Some Professor X cosplayers choose to customize their wheelchair to get closer to the look and feel of Xavier’s hovering wheelchair in the comics and movies.

About Professor X

Charles Xavier, or Professor X as he is better known, was born to a long line of wealthy landowners. When his father died, Charles was only 10 years old. His family expected Charles to take over the land and business affairs, but young Charles wanted more than this provincial life offered. He joined the US Army during WWI and then later studied medicine. He met a gifted young scientist named Eric Lensherr, who eventually became his greatest enemy, Magneto.

Charles Xavier founded the X-Men, a school for mutants that teaches them how to control their powers and use them to better society. Although most of these students are teenagers who have lived with being different all their lives, Professor X treats each one as if they were his own children. He is willing to put himself in harm’s way for his students because he knows that they are the future.

In addition to having the telepathic abilities of Cerebro, Xavier is also brilliant. He possesses the ability to control other people’s minds.

About the Professor X Look

The professor wears a black suit with a small X-shaped pin on his lapel. He dons round glasses and a completely bald head. And, of course, gets around using a wheelchair.

Wrapping Up

As you gear up for the cosplay season, remember these tips and you’ll have no problem pulling off the Professor X look. And, let us not forget the iconic aspect of the character, the wheelchair. It may seem like a small detail, but it adds to the authenticity of the character. So, roll in style and excelsior!
