MomoCon: What to Expect

MomoCon is a yearly celebration of animation, gaming, comics, and costuming that takes place in Atlanta, Georgia. It was created by a small group of individuals associated with the Anime O-Tekku club at Georgia Tech, and has since become one of the largest anime conventions in North America, attracting over 42,000 attendees in 2022. The convention is held at the Georgia World Congress Center, which is one of the largest convention centers in the United States.

One of the unique aspects of MomoCon is the tight-knit community formed by its attendees and over 1,200 volunteers. To bring fans together more often and reach out to a wider audience, MomoCon has started hosting various events, such as photoshoots, game days, and art contests, throughout the year under MomoCon On Tour. The next MomoCon will be held from May 25-28, 2023.

MomoCon Guests

The 2023 MomoCon will feature an impressive list of guests, including singer Adassa, cartoonist Don Bluth, cosplayers like Story Teller Cosplay, Kizuna Cosplay, and Shellanin, and anime artist Kaiji Tang. Additionally, there will be a special YouTube live performance by popular singers and performers, which will be announced closer to the event.

MomoCon Events

The MomoCon AMV On Stage event, held on Friday night, will be a showcase of AMVs (Anime Music Videos) edited specifically for the event and accompanied by live music. MomoCon is currently accepting submissions for AMVs, and those selected to have their videos showcased will receive a free 4-day membership to MomoCon 2023.

The MomoCon Cosplay Showcase, held on Friday night, is a celebration of cosplay where attendees can show off their costume creations and become the character they are portraying on stage. Contestants will be judged on screen accuracy and their spirit of cosplay, including poise, presentation, and enthusiasm.

On Saturday night, the MomoCon Craftsmanship Costume Contest will showcase the top tier cloth craftsmanship and prop making of its participants. Contestants will be judged primarily on their craftsmanship and must have made 60% or more of their costume by hand.

Finally, the MomoCon Disney Singing Competition, held during the event, will allow singers to showcase their vocal talents by singing their favorite Disney songs, with fabulous prizes to be won.

MomoCon brings together fans of animation, gaming, comics, and costuming, and provides a fun and exciting weekend filled with various activities and events. With a diverse lineup of guests, live performances, and competitions, there is something for everyone at MomoCon 2023.
